The MBA in Sport Management program at Florida Atlantic University was started in the year 2000. It is currently the only AACSB-accredited MBA in Sport Management in the State of Florida, and one of only 5 or 6 in the entire United States. The program director is Jim Riordan, a former front office executive with the New York Mets and founder of the MS in Sport Administration program at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. Mr. Riordan has placed over 85% of the students who earned their degree under him into full-time positions in the sport and entertainment industry. Although less than two years old, FAU MBASport students are currently, or have been employed with such organizations as The US Open Tennis Championships, Miami Heat, Miami Dolphins, University of Miami Athletics, and the Baltimore Orioles. A major internship is required to graduate, but students are expected to undertake mini-internships and practical while they are taking classes. All classes are at night. The MBA specialization is 12 credits. It includes Sport Law, Sport Marketing, Financial Aspects of Sport and much more! Most classes are held in Fort Lauderdale. Florida Atlantic University, a member of the State University System of Florida, was established in 1961 and opened its doors to students in 1964, Its total enrollment is 25,000 and more than 70,000 men and women are FAU alumni. In addition to its 850-acre campus in Boca Raton, FAU campuses are located in Broward County at Fort Lauderdale, Davie and Dania Beach, in northern Palm Beach County at Jupiter and in St. Lucie County in Port St. Lucie. The University is organized into nine colleges: The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and the Colleges of Business, Education, Engineering, Liberal Arts, Honors College, Nursing, and Architecture, Urban and Public Affairs. The nation's first successful upper-division and graduate university, FAU served as a model for other universities in Florida and across the nation, In 1984, FAU admitted its charter freshman class of highly qualified students, thus becoming a four-year institution. FAU offers undergraduate programs in 57 fields of study and master's degree programs in 50 disciplines. The University confers 15 doctoral degrees, including business administration, comparative studies, complex systems and brain sciences, computer engineering, computer science, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, electrical engineering, exceptional student education, mathematical sciences, mechanical engineering, ocean engineering, physics, psychology, public administration, and comparative studies. |
