About the School
The Salisbury School of English is a family owned company and courses are run in a building which many years ago was a family home. We do all we can to provide a happy, friendly atmosphere in the School. We want students to feel relaxed and among friends.
The staff employed by the organisation are all trained in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language and most of them have many years experience of teaching English both in Britain and abroad.
It is important that each course has an objective. These objectives are defined by the Director of Studies. The academic staff meet regularly to appraise the aims of courses and the way in which these aims are being met. Once every two weeks students are asked to complete an interim course evaluation so that they and the teachers can analyse the effectiveness of the teaching and the level of satisfaction for students.
In addition, during the period from September to May, all students on General Intensive courses have a private tutorial with their teacher every two weeks, to discuss their progress and how well they feel that they are achieving their learning aims.
This continuous monitoring, permits assessments of the effectiveness of teaching methods and materials and an ongoing development of our teaching. Course materials are included in the course fee.
Teachers at the school have at their disposal a wide range of written, visual and recorded materials. The school has developed a number of teaching aids and methods to increase the lasting effects of the courses. These include video and sound recordings and the use of computer assisted language learning.
At the back of the school there is a large garden with a table tennis table and sun terrace which, despite the unreliability of English weather, is used not only in the summer, but frequently at other times of the year for leisure activities.
