About University of Birmingham

The University of Birmingham was established over 100 years ago and remains one of the most popular higher education institutions, as well as the leading university in the West Midlands of England. It is set in very pleasant surroundings, located about three miles from the city centre with very good road and rail access.

Birmingham is a cosmopolitan city, which caters for people from a multitude of cultures. It has a good transport infrastructure and access to international travel is very good. Local trains stop at the University, which is only about five minutes from the City centre.

The University was a founder member of the Universitas 21, an elite group of top research universities throughout the world. In a recent Research Assessment Exercise the University of Birmingham was ranked fifth in the United Kingdom, reflecting its excellence in a wide range of disciplines at both national and international level. The university has over 27,000 students, 30% of them are on our postgraduate programmes.
