Accommodation |
Students who have been accepted at the University of Latvia should notify the International Office by June 30 of their intention to live in the University dormitory, otherwise the University can not guarantee accommodation there because the possibilities are very limited. Usually all international students are housed in separate rooms with communal kitchen on each floor. |
Fees |
The tuition fee for international students (both undergraduate and graduate) is 2000 USD per academic year in humanities and social sciences and 3000 USD per academic year in natural sciences.
Doctorate Course tuition fee is 2500 USD per academic year in humanities and social sciences and 3000 USD per academic year in natural sciences. |
Admission requirements | International undergraduate applicants are required to have completed their secondary education and must possess university eligibility in their own country. Students who plan to complete their entire undergraduate education and receive a Bachelor's degree at the University of Latvia must pass the Latvian language test. Admission will be based on the results of the passed test and the results of other supplementary tests if needed. |

LU-29. BACHELOR’S DEGREE PROGRAMME IN THEOLOGY Programme Director - Jânis Sîkstulis, Dr.Philol., Associate Professor, phone (+371)2211288 Degree - Bachelor of Theology (B.Theol.) Diploma - B.Theol. Duration of studies - 8 semesters Admission Requirements - Certificate of general secondary education Entrance exams - common test in Humanities, a test in the Latvian language Degree Requirements - Full covering of programme, writing and defending of Bachelor’s thesis ANNOTATION OF THE PROGRAMME Studies at the Faculty of Theology consists of courses of : Old Testament, New Testament, Systematic Theology, History of Church, Practical Theology, Biblical and Modern Languages. The programme is organised into three levels of study: A Compulsory basic subject studies 50% credits (Hebrew, Greek, Church History, Systematic Theology, Biblical Theology, Religious Education, Philosophy of Religion, Liturgy, etc.), B Elective studies 40% credits (20th century theology, Exegesis of Books from Old and New Testaments, Homiletics, etc.), C Freechoice studies 10% credits. Recommended courses in Philosophy, General History, Psychology, etc. Bachelor of Theology Thesis are required of approximately 20,000 words. LU-30. Part A Compulsory basic subject studies 50% credits (History of European civilisation, History of ancient and contemprorary religions, Studies of Religious texts and methods of research, Christianity and its institutions and theology, languages of world religions etc.) Part B Elective studies 40% credits (Mythology of Balts, Introduction to Latvian folklore, Comparative soteriology, Introduction to Egyptology, Basics of Islamic Culture, etc.), Part C Freechoice studies 10% credits. The faculty offers a variety of courses in the five main subject areas: History of Theology, Religious Philosophy, Systematic Theology, Religious Psychology, Textology and Terminology. The programme consists of two parts:. A Compulsory courses common to all subject areas. B Optional courses according to the M.Theol. thesis research subject and chosen branch. |
