Description of secondary
school system
The secondary school system consists of general secondary
education and vocational education. General education has three stages
: primary, basic and secondary. Stages of primary and basic school education
are compulsory. General secondary education is provided by secondary schools,
grammar schools, lyceums and vocational schools. Vocational schools provide
secondary education in parallel with job training. General secondary study
programmes lead to the Certificate of Secondary Education (School Leaving
Certificate). Specialized secondary education takes place in 3-4 years
in a broad network of specialized secondary institutions (technical schools,
higher vocational school). A Diploma of Specialized Secondary Education
in awarded at the end.
